Out of the Darkness, Inc. would not be where it is today if it wasn't for the guidance and leadership of Father Laurence Tracy. Father Tracy was a well-known leader in the Rochester community and lived his life among the Hispanic community in Rochester. He was part of Out of the Darkness, Inc. since day one when the ministry was just a dream for Founder & Executive Director, Sonia Rodríguez.
Sonia initially met Father Tracy after her house burnt down in Rochester. She had never met him before, but he came to her home and offered her and her family members assistance after they lost everything in the fire. After that experience, Sonia kept in touch with Father Tracy and they remained good friends. Years later, Sonia was interested in purchasing a vacant home for a couple of years in Rochester. She was having difficulty finding someone she could speak to about purchasing the home. When she approached Father Tracy with her dream of buying the home and explained the situation to him, without thinking, he decided to help her. Together, they worked to purchase the house and made it what it is today: a transitional home and haven for women in need of recovery support.
Sonia is forever grateful and indebted to Father Tracy for his wisdom, encouragement, and ongoing support throughout the home-buying process. He will always be an integral part of the Out of the Darkness, Inc. ministry and will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on throughout those whom he touched in so many ways throughout his incredible life in the Rochester, NY community.
