The initial step to the recovery process is a willingness to ask or look for help and we think that you have found the right place at Out of the Darkness, Inc.!
Out of the Darkness, Inc. is a recovery facility located in the Finger Lakes Region in beautiful Rochester, NY. We offer a variety of programs for women who have substance abuse problems, behavioral issues, or are controlled by other destructive habits.
There are three steps to our Application Process:

To begin the Application Process with Out of the Darkness, Inc., there are two ways to apply:
- Email: Download the Client Application to your computer and email your application to us.
- Fax: Download the Client Application to your computer and fax your application to us.
The Out of the Darkness, Inc. Client Application is confidential and will be reviewed only by our intake team members. Once your application is received, someone from our team will contact you by phone within 24 hours.

--Download the application to your computer. (Note: Please make sure that you SAVE the file to your computer FIRST. If you complete the application directly online in another window, you will not be able to save, edit, or send it to us, you will only be able to print it out.)
--Complete the application and save your application as a PDF file using this format: (Your Last Name, Your First Name)
--Send your application as a PDF file attachment via email to: contact@outofthedarknessroc.org

2) Follow-Up Phone Call
After you complete the Out of the Darkness, Inc. Client Application, someone from our organization will contact you by phone within 24 hours for an initial follow-up phone. During the phone call, please expect to spend 10-15 minutes on the phone with one of our intake team members.
While you are waiting for your phone call, please consider the following:
- Pray to the Lord.
- Be prepared to answer questions about yourself such as your history (i.e., family & social, recovery, educational & occupational, mental health, victimization, chemical dependence or substance abuse) and your source of income. Please also be ready to answer questions about your application in order to clarify any questions the intake team members may have.
At the end of the initial follow-up phone call, one of our intake team members will either:
- Set up a time for a more in-depth phone interview or invite you to come in for an in-person interview.
- Refer you to another agency or organization in the Rochester area.
3) Phone or IN-PERSON INTERVIEW
During the phone or in-person interview, please expect to spend 30 minutes - 1 hour on the phone or in-person with one intake team members. We will go over your Out of the Darkness, Inc. Client Application in more detail, ask you to complete and sign release paperwork so we can continue to move forward with the application process. We will also give you a tour of our Sober Recovery House and introduce you to the other women living there.
If you have any specific questions for us, please prepare a list beforehand so that you can ask us during this time.
At the end of the interview, we will invite you to stay with us and become a part of our family or we will refer you to another agency or organization in the Rochester area.
